Solar Panels

Not only could solar thermal panels provide up to 65% of your annual hot water needs for free therefore reducing your gas bills, you can also receive payments from the renewable heat incentive for the energy you generate. Solar PV has an equivalent scheme called the feed in tariff, where you could receive up to 41.3p per KW you generate whether you use the electricity or sell it back to your provider for an additional sum. Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is designed to help companies and individuals switch from traditional heating fuels to renewable sources. If you replace your existing gas, oil or coal heating system with a renewable technology you could be paid a set amount each year as an incentive for you to reduce your CO2 emissions. The Government is yet to confirm the RHI, but it is likely to be implemented in April 2011 and be as follows;

Biomass 9p per kw for 15 years
Ground source heat pump 7p per kw for 23 years
Air source heat pump 7.5p per kw for 18 years
Solar thermal 18p per kw for 20 years
