ECOLOGICAL HEATING LTD SOLAR PANELS

HOT WATER AND HEATING FROM YOUR HOME

The sun provides us with an almost limitless supply of energy. Even in our northern climate we
can still harvest a usable amount of daylight to generate electricity, hot water and in some cases
heating. There are two main ways to harvest solar energy.

Solar photovoltaic cells are mounted onto part of your roof and convert daylight into electricity.
The panels are connected through an inverter to your fuse board for use in the home or sold back
into the National Grid through a special meter. As an example, a typical domestic solar electricity system, with an installation size of 2 kWp could earn around:

  • £700 per year from the Generation Tariff
  • £25 per year from the Export Tariff
  • £110 per year reduction in current electricity bills

This gives a total saving of around £830 per year.

This assumes 50% of the electricity generated is exported. The figure will vary depending on how much is exported. (Source Energy Saving Trust www.energysavingtrust.org.uk)

Solar thermal systems are also roof mounted and use the sun’s energy to heat your hot water
cylinder or, in a well insulated highly energy efficient house, could contribute towards the heating.
There are two types of solar thermal panels. The more efficient consist of vacuum heat tubes but
these can look out of place in certain areas in which case the flat panels would be specified as
they look similar to roof windows.

The F.I.T. is guaranteed for 25 years. At Ecological Heating we can install a 1KW system from £6000 including VAT.
